Everyone raised an eyebrow when it became known Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) and Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) were getting it on in Emmerdale.

Not least Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker), whose torch for Charles was snuffed out when she accidentally interrupted him and Laurel getting down to it.

The pair had originally ended up in bed in a surprise turn of events when Laurel asserted her authority over the Harvest Festival plans, and Charles kinda liked it. She snogged him, he snogged her back, and the rest is history.

Their relationship has been a bit touch and go since then, with the added complications of Laurel’s soon-to-be ex-husband Jai (Chris Bisson) sniffing around, and a betrayed Manpreet trying to digest that she’s lost her man for good.

Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) got involved when she sussed something was up with her bezzie and tried to extract the truth from Laurel. Laurel confessed she’s been bedding the vicar.

Those added complications are set to rear their ugly heads when Manpreet becomes concerned when she senses tension between Charles and Jai. It escalates when the two square up to each other ready for a fight.

It’s not a great look for the local holy man and Manpreet berates him for his misplaced show of bravado.

Unfortunately for Laurel, this has him questioning things. He wonders, is this new romance really worth the hassle of being on the wrong side of vindictive Jai?

Charles tells Laurel about what happened and she’s keen to work it through.

But defiant Charles has already made his mind up – Laurel’s left aghast when he tells her they’re done. Is this really it for them?
