The beautician – who is played by actress Lisa Riley in the ITV soap – is set for a major plot towards the end of the year that will run on and on.
And in tonight’s episode there was a moment that suggests a clue has been dropped.
Actress Lisa teased the storyline by revealing it would come after the show deals with the heartbreaking real-life death of actor Steve Halliwell.
He had played Zak Dingle for almost 30 years and the soap will be saying goodbye to Zak later this summer with an emotional and fitting storyline.
But after that Mandy will find herself in the centre of a storyline that will leave fans shocked.
Lisa told DigitalSpy: “Things get really, really busy. We’ve got our beloved tribute to Steve Halliwell.
“That’s going to take us all the way through up until Christmas and then there’s an actual storyline for Mandy, which is going to be a real [bombshell], off the back of that.
“That’s all I can say, but the viewers are going to be very, very shocked!”
In tonight’s episode viewers watched as Mandy and Paddy finally remarried – almost a quarter of a century to the day of their first wedding.
But in a touching moment before the ceremony was called off – and then called back on – Mandy opened up to son Vinny about her mother Vera-Lynn Dingle – and her absence from the wedding.
Vinny told her: “Paddy’s going to get the best wife and I’ve got the best mum.
“Have you heard from your mum?”
But Mandy told him: “You know I haven’t. Don’t be sad for me.
“Our Vera Lynne, she’s the gold medal winner of letting me down. But if I don’t expect anything then I don’t get pee’d off when she lets me down.”
That will come as news to long-time Emmerdale fans who have been told that Mandy’s mum died when she was a child.
So with her now being alive, could Vera-Lynn be arriving in the village for Mandy’s major new storyline?
