Emmerdale has hinted at turmoil for Sam Dingle (James Hooton) and his wife Lydia (Karen Blick) in the wake of Samson’s departure.
Last week, Samson Dingle (Sam Hall) received a four-year prison sentence after falsely claiming that Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano) stabbed him at The Hide.
The malicious event was masterminded by Josh Cope (Osian Morgan), resulting in Matty being unjustly incarcerated where he endured a terrible ordeal.
Moira Dingle (Natalie J.Robb) urged Samson to confess the truth to free her innocent son, but Samson initially intended to flee the village before Matty’s trial.
Eventually, Lydia convinced her stepson Samson to admit the truth to the authorities, knowing he would face jail time for his actions.
In an attempt to toughen up the young man, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) taught him some fighting techniques which Samson used to confront bully Josh.
Noah (Jack Downham) reported Samson to the police for assaulting Josh, leading to his arrest in front of his distraught parents.
After the court proceedings, Sam and Samson shared a heartfelt farewell before he was taken away to prison, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Since Samson’s departur, Sam has been left feeling defeated and burdened with concern for his son, holding Moira responsible.
In Tuesday’s Emmerdale episode (August 13), Sam was rattled about who reported Samson to the police and is certain it was Moira, believing his son might have had a chance to avoid jail if he hadn’t been arrested for assault.
In a heart-to-heart with Lydia, Sam opened up about his constant worry for Samson and the situation he’s in. Lydia attempted to get Sam to express his distress, sharing that she felt similarly affected.
However, Sam lashed out, saying: “It’s not the same”, leaving Lydia shocked. Lydia retorted: “You mean because I’m not his real mum”, before storming out of the cafe.
ITV soap enthusiasts are aware that Lydia has embraced Samson as her own since she began dating Sam in 2017 and became his wife three years on.
The remark clearly wounded Lydia, but later in the episode, Sam sought forgiveness for his words. “Of course, you’re his mum, and you’re going through this too”, he conceded to Lydia.
He continued: “I just miss him and I’m scared for him”, while affirming to Lydia that she was the glue keeping their family intact.
Lydia was moved by Sam’s candidness, yet the question lingers: Is Samson’s incarceration straining the beloved duo’s bond?
