Emmerdale viewers are convinced that Billy Fletcher, played by Jay Kontzle, is in cahoots with a former soap star as his big secret comes to light.
The character has been under immense pressure recently, trying to support his family financially. Fans will remember that his wife Dawn (Olivia Bromley) can’t work because she’s looking after their son Evan, who’s battling leukaemia.
Billy’s behaviour has raised eyebrows over the past few weeks. Dawn stumbled upon a stash of cash, and Billy quickly concocted a lie which she believed. However, during Wednesday’s episode (October 9), his secret was unveiled to the audience.
Despite their ill son Evan being discharged from the hospital, Billy seemed preoccupied. Later, a battered and bloodied Billy was discovered by a worried Mack (Lawrence Robb), reports Leeds Live.
Billy had a gaping wound on his side that needed urgent medical attention. But he insisted on keeping others out of it, confessing that he’d been participating in an underground boxing club.
Mack sought help from John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) who treated Billy’s injury, before cautioning him about the potential fatal consequences of continuing to fight. Upon returning home, Dawn was alarmed by Billy’s injuries, but he fabricated a story about getting involved in a Boxercise class and apologised to her.
She then went to care for Evan who was now at home, but Billy received a phone call. Answering it, a woman on the other end asked Billy if he was up for another fight next week – offering double the money. Fans are buzzing over the mysterious caller in Emmerdale, taking to online forums with their hunches and they reckon it’s a soap icon making a comeback.
One eagle-eyed viewer speculated on Reddit: “Why does the end voicemail sound a bit like a certain someone?” They continued, hinting at a fan favourite: “Could just be nothing but sounds Tina doesn’t it?”
The theory gathered steam as another fan chimed in: “It does sound very like her, if they were to bring her back, there is the obvious reason coming soon so no need for a side plotline but this is soap.” Yet another agreed: “Why does the voicemail at the end sound a bit like Tina.”
Tina Dingle, played by Jacqueline Chadwick, first graced Emmerdale in 1994 as Zak Dingle’s (Steve Halliwell) only daughter. However, she’s been MIA for nearly 30 years, with her last stint in the village dating way back to December 1996.
